What We Do |
|
The work of a Member of Parliament is diverse.
The type of work we do, the way we do it, where and when we do it and with whom we collaborate are influenced by many factors.
As the State Member for Rodney, I am responsible for my electorate and required to make myself available to constituents. Within the confines of the policies of my party and my parliamentary responsibilities, my role is to promote the interests of my electorate to the very best of my ability.
At the office I take telephone inquiries, meet with constituents on matters of local, State or personal concern and answer correspondence. I am involved in all kinds of local issues from roads, health and education through to water, agriculture and emergency services. I open facilities, speak at functions, conduct tours of inspection, address school students, pensioner groups, interest and lobby bodies and meet with the press.
I also represent the Rodney electorate’s concerns to Government departments, to Ministers and to the Parliament. I introduce delegations from the electorate to party leaders, Ministers and senior public servants and at all times work to promote the concerns and interests of my constituents in the Rodney electorate.

Congratulatory Messages
Congratulatory messages are available through the Department of Premier and Cabinet for people celebrating their 90th and 100th birthdays and Golden (50 years) and Diamond (60 years) Wedding Anniversaries.
Forms are available from my Electorate Office at 26 Percy Street, Echuca. A copy of the Birth Certificate or Marriage Certificate is required. If you are unable to obtain either of these certificates the completion of a Statutory Declaration will be necessary.
A period of at least three weeks notice prior to the celebration is required to allow the congratulatory messages to be received on the celebration date.
The Protocol and Special Events Branch is responsible for arranging messages from the Premier. Notification is also given to the following:
The Prime Minister – 90th/100th Birthdays, Golden and Diamond Anniversaries
The Governor of Victoria – 100th Birthdays, Golden and Diamond Anniversaries
The Governor General (includes notification to the Queen) – 100th Birthdays and Diamond Anniversaries.
Victorian Flags
Victorian FlagFlags are provided through the Department of Premier and Cabinet, on the recommendation of a State Member of Parliament, to certain community groups and organisations.
There is a general expectation that an organisation requesting a flag will display the flag on an exterior flagpole or at public meetings. The organisation must be voluntary, based on philanthropic motives and have a high profile in the community.
Overseas Student Kits
Victorian promotional kits are available to individual students travelling overseas on exchange programs.
The kits provide background information on Victoria and Australia to assist students in preparing presentations on their home country. A written request should be addressed to Mr Weller at the Rodney Electorate Office, and should include the name of the student, school attended, country being visited and the departure date.
